OK, about 2 hours work today got the whirlygig fiddleyard baseboards together. Here they are in all their glory in approximate position without 360 deg sector plates - seen here held together with masking tape and various bits from around the house whilst the glue sets. The sides will be finished off with 3mm ply as with the layout baseboard. I might surface the boards with something soft like felt. The layout is minus lighting pelmet and crossing keepers cottage here. The boards will take a 4-6-0 loco and 2 Mk1's length wise - quite long enough for a small layout like this (5 foot). They're basically A1 in length - the size of the foamboard!

Model Railway Layouts by Chris Nevard @ fotopic.net

The first of the 2 whirlygig 360 degree fiddle yard trays (to allow turning of a complete train) now have some track down. The sides have now been laminated with ply. The individual tracks will be lined up to the layout with brass tube and L shaped pins in the time honoured manner, these will also provide electical continuity - simple. Once that has been done and the plywood sides added to the baseboards, the whole lot will be sprayed black to match the rest of the layout. To stop stock falling onto the floor, foam covered plywood safety plates (not seen here) engage between the little keepers seen on either end.Previous | NextThe beginnings of the two 360 deg 4 road whirlygig fiddleyards..............
